Type Locality and Naming

In the village of Apartak, surroundings of the city of Angren. A.A. Abdusamatov et al., 1988, U.M. Rasulov et al., 1991. Stratotype in the area of the old coal quarry of Apartak.

Synonym: Apartakian Suite, Апартакская св.


Lithology and Thickness

The suite is divided into two sub-suites. Lower sub-suite - clayey sandstones, greenish, marls, light-gray, white limestones. Thicknesss up to 30 m. Upper sub-suite - brown, dark-gray, tobacco clays; bluish-green sands, sandstones; variegated gravels. Thickness up to 20m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It lies conformably on the Turkestan Fm

Upper contact

With erosion, it is overlain by the Tashsay Fm

Regional extent

Prishchekent District (mountainous part), Angren River basin, Angren Plateau, left bank of the Chirchik River. Lower sub-suite is correlated with the Rishtan Fm of the Fergana Depression. Upper sub-suite is correlated with the Isfarin Fm and Khanabad Fm of the Fergana Depression, the Guliaob Fm of the Tajik Depression, and South-Western Gissar and the Babat. Since 1988, it has been used in the compilation of reference legends, as well as in geological mapping and thematic studies of the Chatkalo-Kuramin mining district.

Lower sub-suite - contains marine bivalve mollusks - *Ostrea simplex* Desh., *Platigena asiatica* Rom., *Chlamys sokhiensis* Korob., *Pitar gumberensis* Arch. Upper sub-suite -contains marine bivalve mollusks - *Ostrea plicata* Sol., *Cardita lukovichi* Ruch., *Gari fischeri* Heb. et Ren., *Solen rimosis* Bellardi, *Ostrea tianschanensis* Rom., *Aralocardia eichwaldiana* Rom, *A. Mica* Ovet.

The lower sub-suite belongs to the Middle Eocene (Bartonian Stage). The upper sub-suite - to the Upper Eocene (Priabonian Stage)
